Day 1: Anchor Team Goals in Vision
Task: Revisit your organization’s mission and strategic priorities.- Identify one overarching goal directly tied to the vision.
- Break it into 2-3 actionable priorities.
- Quick Win: Create a “Vision + Priorities” document, and email it to your leadership team.
Day 2: Leadership Team Involvement
Task: Host a 30-minute goal-setting meeting with department heads about your “Vision + Priorities” document.- During the meeting, ask:
- How can each department contribute to the priorities?
- What potential challenges or dependencies will we run into?
- Quick Win: Create a unified list of one measurable goal per department that supports the larger vision. Add it to your “Vision + Priorities” document.
Day 3: Break Goals into Measurable Outcomes
Task: Ask your leadership team to email you:- 3-5 Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for their departmental goal.
- 3-5 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) you can both use to track progress.
- Quick Win: Add responses to your “Vision + Priorities” document. This is now becoming something everyone can rally around.
Day 4: Personal Alignment
Task: Meet with at least 3 team leaders for 10-minute 1-on-1s.- Learn their personal aspirations
- Reflect on how those personal aspirations align with team goals.
- Quick Win: Summarize how each leader’s personal goals can be achieved by executing on the vision. Show them how their success ties into the broader mission. Share this in a follow-up email.
Day 5: Empower with Autonomy
Task: Ask each leader to provide ideas on how they think their team should pursue its goals.- Encourage creative approaches and set a bi-weekly check-in.
- Quick Win: Document the strategies proposed by each team leader. Add these to your “Vision + Priorities” document. Highlight one as a model during your next leadership meeting.
